The constant news about the coronavirus can be very troubling. People with cancer and their families might feel especially worried about the virus, as cancer and its treatment can lower your ability to fight infection. Also, as more and more hospitals across Canada and the United States are putting surgeries and treatments on hold. This is particularly hard on many patients who see these as very important steps in their journey toward recovering from cancer. At the end of this blog there are a list of resources with information and strategies to help cancer patients cope with their cancer through Coronavirus.
But first I wanted to share with you an article I read by Diane Mapes from Fred Hutch News Service about the similarities between what cancer patients’ deal and what the world is now facing. For weeks I have been trying to put my finger on the extremely familiar, unsettling, powerful feelings I have had and this article captured it perfectly. Been there….done that. This too shall pass.
For anyone that has been through cancer this is a MUST read. Enjoy.
